Hi Loves! How was everyone’s Memorial Day weekend? How about weekend hangover? Yup, the struggle is real my friends. With the Memorial Day weekend passed, Summer is in full swing and although the temps are steadily risinig, some of us still like to wear cute summer jeans. I am sure you have noticed the “Fringe Hem” jeans/denim look…it is all over the web and has that beachy, “feet in the sand” vibe going on! Such a fun look! So, I had a lightbulb moment (happens from time to time…hold your laughter please). Instead of paying lofty prices for a pair of jeans that I may not wear into the next year, how about make a pair of my own? DING DING DING! I did some research and of all the tutorials out there and through some trial and error of my own, I came up with the best, most easy way of making Fringe Hem Jeans and I am going to share with you how to do it!
First and foremost, you need a pair of jeans that you don’t care about cutting up. Check. Then you need scissors, either a hem puller or a pair of tweezers. Check.
Start by cutting off the jeans to a length that you want them at. I started off at the ankle. Be sure to cut “safely” at first, meaning cut longer than you actually might want them to. You can always go shorter if you don’t like the length. Try them on and see if that is a good length for you.
Secondly, start cutting vertical strips (like a chami mop looks) to a length you want your frayed fringe to be. The longer the strips, the longer you frayed fringe will be. If you want to use a pencil or chalk to measure exactly across (horizontally) to where you want the strip to end, you can but I just “eyed” it. And excuse my nasty looking nails…my Shelac had just came off.
Next, you’re going to take either a seam ripper or your tweezers. I used both cuz I got bored and switched back and forth…hello…ADD! You’re going to pull the cross (horizontal) threads out that keeps the denim together. As you pull them out, the denim will be frayed!
Try on the jeans and make sure it’s all even and the length you want them to be and WaLa! You have yourself a Fringe Hem look! I will be doing this with shorts too!
