French Grunge

Hey Hey Girls!  How’s everyone’s week rolling?  It’s almost over my friends…hang in there for ONE.MORE.DAY.

So, since it’s the 1st day that it hasn’t been like 80+ degrees here in Tulsa, American…I finally feel I can start talking about actual FALL looks…as in jackets!  And I had so much fun with this look.  I woke up one day and said “I think I want to look French today.”  Random right?  Well, I have this adorable new scarf that I picked up from our new Madewell store here in Tulsa and knew the right pairing with it would be a black and white stripe top.  Cha Ching!  But, I also love to look a little grunge too…and knew it would be rocking with a Bomber Jacket, so I added those two little flairs and Wa-La…”French Grunge” is born! Okay, Okay…maybe people already rock this look…but I just officially named it…okay okay…I know that there is “technically” already a “French Grunge” named look so maybe I’m just rocking it then? That’s better 🙂

The Midi Dress

Hey Hey!  How is everyone’s week going?  How about the fact that it’s almost over and the weekend is knocking on the door is how it’s going?  Woot!

So today class, we are going to talk about the Midi Dress.  “Midi”…what does that mean you say?  Well, in technical “Fashion” terms…”Midi” means it (the dress, skirt or even a coat) comes Mid length between your knees and ankles…or somewhere in that realm of your leg.  And Midi’s are all the rage this Fall! BUT…yep, there’s always a BUT.  You gotta be careful when wearing a Midi, especially if you’re a shorty (like me).  So here is some “Midi 101” for “Shorty’s” (and if you’re tall, well then you can just do whatev you like):

  1. Pay attention to the shape.  Go for a cinched in waist, a belted waist or an A-Line silhouette.  If you select a length that is slightly above your calves (or get it altered to that length) it shows more shape of your legs, therefore creating a more “thinner/taller” look
  2. Fabric. Don’t go for a heavy fabric Midi if you’re short, go for lighter, flowy, breezy fabrics
  3. Wear a heeled shoe like pumps/heels, booties or tall boots

And this concludes the end of our “Midi” lesson class 🙂

A Day of Pink

Hello Lovelies! I hope everyone is having an amazing week and October!  And if you live here in Tulsa, it doesn’t feel much like October with 80 degree temps still…yuck.  Speaking of October…it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month (I’m sure you knew that already) but Tulsa and Oklahoma for that reason are really big on Breast Cancer Awareness Month…especially because we have an amazing organization called Oklahoma Project Woman.  If you don’t know about the wonderful work they do and the assistance they provide for women who can not afford mammograms or do not have insurance to cover the cost of mammograms, surgeries and medical cost associated with Breast Cancer…I highly recommend you check it out because Breast Cancer has touched us all in some form or fashion whether you’re a survivor yourself, had a loved one or friend or a friend of a friend who was a survivor or lost the fight.  I lost my Grandmother to Breast Cancer.  And it was so difficult because she knew for a full year that she had the disease but because of her religious beliefs chose not to seek medical help and relied up on the power of prayer to heal her.  Once we found out, it was way too late for intervention.  We lost her in less than a month.  Now, I don’t want to get into that subject…that’s a Blog post in it’s own that I just don’t care to tackle based up on argumentative beliefs and views and I frankly don’t want a possible all out war on the subject so I’ll just leave it alone and focus on the fact I don’t have my Granny here anymore.  She was the most vibrant and tough woman I have ever known.  She was a rodeo trick rider and performer that was still performing into her 70’s when the Cancer took  her from us.  I feel so very honored that I had the privilege to be in her presence and learn so many life lessons from her as well!

***My Granny…Lenore Rowe***

So, enough of that as I’m wiping my tears.  I had the huge honor of attending 2 of Oklahoma Project Woman’s events this past Monday….the Pink Ribbon Lunch at Aberson’s and the Pink Ribbon Dinner at Southern Hill’s!  So if you’re asking what these events are…well, I’m gonna tell ya!

The Pink Ribbon Lunch was held at Aberson’s (a very high end Women’s and Men’s clothing store here in Tulsa…it’s FABULOUS!).  The event was a ladies luncheon with a mini fashion show featuring Ralph Lauren’s Luxury Line especially for this event!  So So amazing!

img_1049 img_0726 fullsizerender

fullsizerender_3 fullsizerender_2 fullsizerender_1

That night was the Pink Ribbon Dinner at Southern Hill’s Country Club.  The dinner featured a Live Auction of some amazing items as well as a full fashion show featuring the Ralph Lauren Line for Aberson’s.  The line has a Western Flare with detail to beading, statement necklaces, and belts!

Not yo’ Momma’s Jogging Pant

Now it’s Thursday!  And look at me, 2 days in a row with a Blog Post…I am ENGUEGO! Can you hear the sizzling???

So, I’m trying to keep up with the questions & messages that I receive regarding my posts about my favorite things.  One of those favorite things is Joggers, track pants or both…whichever you wanna call them.  I wear them regularly…I mean I have like 8 of them…so I could wear Joggers everyday of the week and not have to do laundry to keep wearing them.  Thinking maybe I have a little obsession?  Not necessarily.  I mean, what’s the difference in having 8 pairs of joggers versus having 8 pairs of LuLuLemon pants…well, several actually…1) The joggers I buy are wwwwaaaayyyyyy cheaper, 2) They are wwwwwaaaayyyyyy more forgiving than a pair of LuLu’s stretched across my booty!  3) I can dress them Up or Down.  4) They are wwwwaaaayyyyy more fashionable and don’t make me look like I live at the gym.   Need I say more?

So, Joggers these days are not like the Joggers of yester-years!  You know, those unflattering add 10lbs make you look frumpy but yet OH SO COMFY jogging pants we used to wear (or maybe we secretly still do, just in the comfort and safety of our own home?) that you could buy at like Wal-Mart or Academy for $5.00 a pair.  Believe me, I’m not hating or making fun…I wore them regularly in college…along w/ PJ pants…even to class! I just don’t think my hubby would appreciate me sporting those around the house as a modernized version of a Mu Mu.  But, to each his or er her own.  No judgement here….just sharing what wouldn’t fly in the Herburger Hacienda of Fashion!  Seriously, it’s not fashionable all the time…I mean how can wiping a 6 year old’s bottom be fashionable?  It can’t people. TMI you say?  Just keeping it real.

So, back to the new and updated Joggers!  Joggers are an updated, fashionable version of those old Jersey, no shape Jogging pants.  They still carry the comfort level but add style and versatility!  The shape is a slimmer cut leg that tapers towards the ankle.  Joggers come in all sorts of materials from Jersey knit, to cotton, to rayon to spandex blend and you can rock them with tenni’s, booties, flip flops, Birkenstocks, flats, wedge tenni’s, oxfords and even heels!  Yes, Joggers can rock with heels!  And I’m sure you’ve seen that guys are now rocking Joggers as well, and they make adorable ones for the Little’s as well.  So you, your hubby and your kiddos could be a Jogger wearing family…I’m visualizing family photo in joggers! Okay, maybe not…but I would try it.

See below on how some of my fellow Blogger Sista’s who got it right! Dress them up with a leather jacket or a blazer!

Happy Wednesday…ehhhh almost Thursday! How is everyone’s week going?  If you’re like me…Fall Break is what’s going.  OOOOOMMMMGGGEEEEEE! You’re like, “What’s the problem?”  Well, no problem really but I was at home w/ my Lil Monkey all summer then he goes back to school and I get used to having days to myself to get krap done and now that he’s out for 3 days, I’m freaking out of how to keep him occupied!  I don’t know about your kiddos, but my Lil Monkey is just that, a Lil Monkey.  The child has 2 gears…”fast as heck” and “crash at bedtime”.  There is no in between.  I’m really gonna have an issue when Christmas break gets here, just sayn’.  I probably sound like a horrible mother, but I’m just being honest…I know that 85% of you that are reading this feel the exact.same.way.  However, I couldn’t imagine life without him!

Enough about my Fall Break worries…let’s talk booties…or rather LEOPARD BOOTIES!  Well, they are a MUST HAVE and a staple for every girl’s wardrobe!  I’ve had quite of you message me and ask me about my cute little Leopard Booties that I’ve been posting, so I thought what a perfect opportunity to round up a variety for you and post them!  These little gems go with jeans, skirts, dresses and shorts! Fall Must Have’s

Well Happy Monday to my Peeps!  I hope everyone had a Super Sparkly Weekend and is ready to tackle the week!  With cooler temps on my end…I am READY (well the mornings and evenings are cooler and during the day is a tad better…not 100% Fall weather yet but it’s coming, or at least I keep telling myself that!)  Sooooooo…I have been putting this blog post off because it’s hard to talk about Fall Fashion when it’s almost 100 freakn’ degrees outside (at least to me it is…the Fashion industry started talking about Fall Fashion the Spring before Fall hits…how do they do that?) Anyways back to ME talking Fall Fashion for your benefit.  Now, there are TONS of things I could go over because the trend list for this season is ENDLESS!  But, I am a Mom and most of your are Mom’s who don’t want to rock every single trendy trend out there SO, I am going to go over some of my

Okay…so for my little look…Bomber, Stripe top (timeless piece) and corduroy skirt with Midi Boots!  Every single one of these pieces is very versatile and didn’t break the bank.  I’d say the entire look was less than $150…minus the Ray Ban Aviators. Duh

Bomber Jacket // Stripe Top // Button Front Skirt // Shoulder Bag // Midi Booties

Let’s start with my #1 on the list: THE BOMBER Jacket.  Run, don’t walk to get one of these!  They are a great  piece to add to any wardrobe.  You can get them in a variety of colors but I love Army Green…or Olive or Camo Green, whatev you wanna call it…it’s my color Jam.  Also you can get them in different fabrics from Nylon to Satin to leather.

Women's Bomber Jacket - Who What Wear

Next, MAJOR Plaid!  And this plaid can go any which way.  You can rock it grungy or more dressed up with Cashmere…anything goes with Plaid! Pair it with Leopard print to shake it up!

Women's Plaid Shirt Dress - Merona™ Plaid Flannel Button-Up Shirt

Ruffles and Lace…together or separate…the romantic yet vampy look is IN!  I’m not a big ruffle fan, well…I take that back, depends on what kind of ruffles really, but I do love Lace!  This look goes great with everything…however you want to rock it!

Semi-Sheer Lace-Paneled Top Ruffled Floral Print Top

Flare Denim…It’s back Ladies, whether you like it or not…it’s back!  And believe me, I am glad!  I feel Flare Denim is very flattering, especially if you have hips, thighs and a booty or all of the above (which I do!).  The Flare bottoms help to balance these “lovely” features out and can also help you look taller!  Which is a bonus when you’re 5.4 and a half…ya, that’s right, I’m 5.4 and a half!

Lace Up…whether it be shoes, top or dresses…just Lace it up!

 Lace-Up Sweatshirt

Shoes…or rather BOOTS, BOOTS and more BOOTS!  Go Over the Knee…as high up and they will go or go “Midi”, the new replacement for Ankle Booties this season (oh, and they are also very Mod looking).

Embroidered!  Yes, makes me think of Mexico and Summer, but the warm weather vibe is pushing it’s way into cooler seasons! You will find it on tops, dresses, jackets, jeans and even on boots!

Floral Embroidered Sweatshirt

Chokers!  Ya, they may have been popular in the 1800’s, then again in the 60’s and again in the 90’s but Chokers are back and better than ever!  This time you can find them in a variety of styles like layered!

Women's Long Simulated Suede Necklace with Casted Feather Ends and Round Beads - Brown Satin Choker

Slip Dress

Hey Hey…it’s FINALLY the weekend and October and FALL…did I mention FALL!  However, it just seemed like it was the weekend, or rather the beginning of September, so time is flying by my friends or maybe it’s not, maybe I’ve just been covered up under a pile of taxes that we haven’t filed (hello extension) and the Oct 15th deadline is glaring at me! Alas, I wrapped them up at midnight last night, or rather this morning and hand delivered them to the accountant this early A.M.  Halle-Freakn-Lu yah. Done, Done and DONE!

Now on to the good stuff! I have been itching to go back to my high school and early college days and attempt the slip dress again…yes, AGAIN!  However, I don’t remember slip dresses of yesterday years being as cool as they are now or rather I just didn’t have the fashion gaga that I have now.  Regardless, I am going there AGAIN.  Today’s slip dresses just aren’t slips that we stole from our Mom’s drawer and threw on over a t-shirt and wrapped a flannel shirt around our waist…no, today’s slip dresses are F.A.S.H.I.O.N.A.B.L.E.  They come in several lengths for different look.  Short (above the knew), Midi Length (Below the knee, Calf Area) or Long and some are satin glamourous.  Slip dresses are everywhere and are going to carry into the Spring.  The most trendy way is to wear over a basic tee!  And if I can get my hands on a more formal, longer version of the slip dress…I will be rocking it with a graphic tee and a black leather jacket…Hello Punk Grunge Goddess!

I found this basic black slip dress on my NYC trip, at H&M…LOVE ME SOME H&M and I question everyday how come Tulsa does not have one! Okay, okay…not EVERY SINGLE day but quite often…which is enough. I mean, OKC has one, why can’t we?  I’m going to keep praying to the retail Gods that we will eventually get one.  The rumor mill is flying around that we are getting a H&M store in Tulsa but I think it’s just a farce.  I just said “farce”! HaHa  Anyways…sorry, got distracted with my ranting but back to my ‘slip dress score’ at H&M in NYC, which was only $29.99! Again, SCORE!  I threw it on over this basic white tee that I picked up from Target…added some booties and BAM…I’m ready to go!  Oh, don’t forget about the choker…another trend that carries me back to the day!  Except designers have really up’d their “choker game”.  This choker is a suede cord that wraps and can be worn different ways.  Later, as the temps cool down, I will throw on a long sleeve tee with this little cutie and some funky tights or rock it with a black leather jacket and heels! Now this Smells like Teen Spirit…or rather doesn’t “smell” but it’s like Teen Spirit with a Nirvana twist.

In New York…

My favorite city in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD is NYC!  I mean, who doesn’t love the “Big Apple”?  If you don’t, we might not be able to be friends…kidding…not kidding…

This city has my heart and I LOVE the energy it has…and no, it has nothing to do with the gobs and gobs of AH-mazing shopping  it has…well, I love that part too…don’t get me wrong…but the city is so much more than just shopping (can’t believe I am saying that!).  And what an opportunity to be able to enjoy this city with 2 of my favorite girls!  New York might not ever be the same from the 3 of us being there…kidding…maybe…

The big draw to us going to the Big Apple was a big bucket list item…the Rolex Central Park Horse Show!  Yep, you read correctly…a horse show,  right in the middle of the concrete jungle.  In fact, it took place at Wolman Ice Rink.  And you might just be thinking to yourself  “a horse show..really…is that an excuse to go to NYC?”  Well, no…not for some, but for these girls, this is just not any horse show but the ROLEX Central Park Horse Show that features some of the best show jumpers and dressage riders in the World…as in Olympic Equestrians who are competing for high dollar winnings.  Plus, you have the back drop of the NYC skyline and it’s simply mesmerizing!  These horse girls were definitely in Heaven.  Not only did we get the chance to attend this amazing event, but we got to hit the Hamptons for a day.  Another desired destination for these girls and believe me, if you haven’t been there…simply gorgeous!  What you see in the movies and TV, just doesn’t do the beauty and quaintness any justice.  Doesn’t sound exciting enough…don’t worry, we squeezed in some SoHo time and quick shopping on 5th Ave and of course…some amazing eats and drinks.  Our hotel was a win win (Viceroy on 57th) and was located just a couple of blocks of Central Park and 5th Ave with a cool roof top bar!  Can you say #WINNING!

Down to the Fashionable stuff….

Packing for NYC can be a little stressful…you want to make sure you have the right amount of clothing because wardrobe changes can happen multiple times a day.  Plus, you want to be all cute and sassy but your feet want to be all sensible and boring…what to choose what to choose to take?   Carefully my friends…carefully.  I always feel jeans are a win win.  The temps were mid 80’s 1 day then mid 70’s another day and lows in the low 60’s, high 50’s…I ALWAYS take a jacket to NYC cuz you just never know…I mean unless we’re there during the winter, which of course I take a coat…duh.  I feel a fun hat is always a good idea and smaller purses like a cross-body bag.  Believe me, I am a BIG TOTE type girl, but lugging my big ole’ bag around NYC all day puts bad juju on my shoulder and back…OUCH.  Shoes, well….good luck my friends…only you can know what shoes your little dogs (I mean feet) can stomach.  I wore a bootie and yes, I am not going to lie…by the end of the day…my feet HATED me…HATED!!!! But, they slowly started to forgive me with a nice adult beverage to take away the throbbing and some time propped up before I crammed them into the next torture contraption…I mean cute shoe and headed off to dinner.  My poor tootsies.

White After Labor Day

fullsizerender_2 fullsizerender_1 fullsizerender

So your Momma and your Grandma has probably scolded you for wearing white after Labor Day?  Or you attempt to rock white after Labor Day and get the stink eye from people as you pass them on the street?  Well guess what???? You’re right and they are WRONG!  White after Labor Day is a definate DO now and absolutely go ahead and ROCK IT!

Oh believe me, it’s taken me awhile to get used to the idea…but I’ve fashionably evolved over the years and find myself pushing the envelope all of the time of what you should and shouldn’t do.  I honestly think that fashion is one’s ability to express themselves…safely sometimes…but none the less, it’s definitely an expression of ones personality!

The good thing is, retailers are now carrying whites into the Fall Winter.  And I’m not talking just cream sweaters and long sleeve tops…but you will be able to find jeans, pants, skirts and dresses!  Personally, I feel that a white dress at the holidays is beautiful and almost fairy-tale like.  So you are asking yourself what is the different between warm weather whites and cool/cold weather whites?  It’s the fabrics my friends.  Also, you will find different shades of whites in the cooler months than in the hotter months.  Whites in the cooler months will be softer, not as “bright white” but not necessarily cream.  You will see soft whites and off whites.  BIG different between Cream and Off White.  Creams have a yellowish huh to them…off whites hold a slight tinge to a bright white.  Okay, maybe that didn’t sound so appealing, “a tinge”….well, you know what I mean!!!

As you see above, I’m ropcking shorts…o.b.v.i.o.u.s.l.y. but only because it is still hotter than Hades here in Tulsa, OK!  Believe me, I am craving jeans and Fall attire, but our weather is making that rather difficult and seems to laugh at me everytime I think about dressing for cooler temps.  So, from my ‘Transition” post…I am still having to improvise.  Uggggggg.  Anyways, back to my outfit.  I paired this rust/stripe cold-shoulder top with white shorts.  It’s a great transition look, especially with the slip-on booties!  I picked up this cute top at Suite One here in Tulsa, a local boutique in our beautiful Utica Square.  It’s going to be perfect for this Fall too and I’ll throw a long cardi over it when it gets even cooler.

Now, these chicks below are right on point with their white after Labor Day.  Pulling in boots and booties is a must!
