My Swimwear picks for Summer

Hey Hey Loves…Happy Summer! Yup, that’s right…Summer is officially here (Memorial Day weekend is a few days away! Insert a SCREAM right here!)  Memorial Day usually means you will need to be swimwear.   How many of you cringe to go find the perfect Swimwear for the season? Um ya, thought so.  I’m right there with ya! Swimwear can be so tricky (as if you didn’t know that).  It can be down right depressing and makes you want to wear a MuMu the entire Summer.  Well, you can’t wear a MuMu.  For one, when you get into the water (whether that be a pool, ocean, lake or whatev) it will weigh you down in the water and you might drown. Can’t have that!

I could honestly write an entire book about the science of finding the correct Swimwear for your particular body type. It’s so in depth and everyone’s body is made different.  But, I’m just going to tell you a few pointers that I have found “helpful” to give the “illusion” of something better than what you’re feeling as you’re standing there in the bright lights of the dressing room, planning on how fast you can get out of there and run to the liquor store and get some wine to drown your Swimwear sorrows.

  1. Don’t go Swimwear shopping on a full stomach.  Just don’t.  Go mid-morning after a light breakfast has settled and you still feel energetic.
  2. GET A SPRAY TAN or make sure you have been applying tanning lotion/cream to where you have some color.  If you have darker skin…good for you! The rest of us have to pay for that luxury.
  3. When trying on Swimwear, stand on your tippy toes in the dressing room.  This gives the illusion of longer, leaner legs and it makes your leg muscles pop more, hence making you feel a little better about the situation.
  4. Also, I feel better if I have makeup on and my hair is somewhat in a good place.  I don’t feel attractive when I look like I’ve been cleaning the house all day.

Now that you’ve got that down, onto the nitty gritty.  Okay, just because a certain style of Swimwear is really in style right now, does not mean it will be good for you.  Right now the vintage, high-waisted bottoms are really in style right now but they make me look like I gained 15 lbs and I don’t want that look.  Also, the deep plunge one piece suits are really in style right now too. But, I can’t wear those either because of my tata’s.  This girl needs support and those don’t have any support (dang it!).  So, I have to break it down to a top with good support and bottoms that ride low on my hips.  And where to go? It seems everywhere has Swimwear and they range from all price points.  Being a Frugal Fashionista, I can’t justify paying $100 for many swimsuits.  I like to have quantity and a variety to choose from.  I remember the days when all my swimwear came from Victoria’s Secret.  What happened to that line?  It started being cut smaller and smaller and then it’s basically non-existent. Boo!  Usually, I will buy a nicer suit and then get the remaining from Target (having a sale on swimwear right now), Shein (having a spend more save more sale), Nordstrom, or Amazon .  I’ve rounded up some of my picks for the season!

Pajama Trend

Hey Loves! Who likes wearing their pajamas? How about if you could wear them all day, out of the house and still look great! You can because the pajama trend in fashion is BIG right now! If you’re questioning my sanity or rather my fashion sense, I promise that you will not regret trying this trend!  Pajamas are all the rage and we saw this trend make it’s appearance this past fall with slip dresses, long sleeve PJ sets, lace and silk cami’s under blazers and cardigans as well as robe coats.  This summer, the pajama trend is still going strong with short sets, rompers and slip dresses!  There are so many different fabric and print options to find your own Pajama flair (insert a thumbs up right here). Pair with Wedges for a more casual fun look or heels for a more dressy look!

PJ Set is from Target (available in stores) / SimilarSimilar / Similar / Similar / Similar /

These pics were shot at the beautiful 2017 Tulsa Designer Showcase Home.  The AMAZING pillows (that I am lounging with above on the porch bed…yes, a porch bed!) are from Fluff Pillow Co!  My sweet friend, Lindsay, just started this amazing designer pillow line!  Her fabrics are beautiful and the quality is 2nd to none! Be sure to check out her page!

In other breaking news, Summer has officially began in my house!  The Monkey’s last day of Kindergarten (sniff sniff) was yesterday and he is officially a 1st Grader! Where has the time gone??? So, I am in MSPM (aka Mom Summer Panic Mode) trying to figure out ways to keep a VERY BUSY 6.5 year old BUSY!  If anyone has any advice or great tips besides endless swimming…let a sista know!

Cinco de Mayo

Happy May Loves!  Where has the time gone…we are already into May! WOW! Time is flying by and school will be out in 2 weeks which means this momma bear is panicking because I’ve got to come up with 3 months of fun to keep my little Monkey occupied…YIKES! But, back to May.  May means Cinco de Mayo! Do you have plans yet? Do you have a fun Cinco look yet?  Well, maybe I can help you out!  I’ve put together a couple of fun looks to get your Cinco de Mayo on and included a couple of my “Go-To” recipes to help you out to get your Cinco de Mayo on!

First and foremost what are you going to wear??? How about an embroidered dress like this THML sheath dress from Jade Creek Boutique! This dress is so cute and versatile to wear with wedges, heeled sandals or slides! Plus this adorable Cactus Straw Tote and Turquoise Beaded Tassel Earrings from Sasha Malchi just add that perfect amount of fiesta!

If you don’t want to wear a dress, this “Tacos and Tequila” Tank from Jade Creek Boutique is perfect with these Distressed Denim Shorts from Express! I added a red bandana and these Studded Ankle Booties for an edgy look!

Once you have got your look down, now you might need a fun appetizer recipe and a festive cocktail to wow your friends with!  Again…I’m here for ya!

Do you love Cheese? Check. Corn? Check. Cream Cheese? Check. Heat? Check.  This Hot Mexican Street Corn Dip has them all and then some!  This dip is sooooo easy to whip up, especially if you’re in a pinch for time and it’s YUMMY!  Serve with your tortilla chip of choice (I like Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips to think I’m eating something heathly).

HOT MEXICAN STREET CORN DIP

(YIELDS 4-6, Double for 6-8)

Prep Time 5 Min, Cook time 20 Min

Ingredients:

1 block of low-fat cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup light sour cream

2 tablespoons of hot sauce (or heat level preference) (I use Cholua)

1 clove minced garlic

1 tablespoon lime juice

1.5 Cup shredded cheese (I use a Mexican blend) (Pepper Jack to up the heat)

1 Can Corn (15 ounce)

1/2 fresh jalapeno pepper, chopped (leave seeds in for extra caliente)

1/4 cup fresh cilantro

*Add 1/4 cup red onion if you like (but I don’t like onions so I leave them out)

  1. Preheat oven to 35oF
  2. Combine cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, hot sauce, lime juice and 1/2 of the shredded cheese. Blend until fully combined
  3. Add remaining cheese, corn, cilantro, onion (if you choose), pepper to taste
  4. Scoop the above mixture into a prepared baking dish.  Sprinkle with more cheese.
  5. Bake 15-20 mins or until cheese is hot and bubbly. Garnish with cilantro and hot sauce
  6. Serve with Chips and enjoy!

All Cinco de Mayo celebrations call for a good libation! This Margarita is perfect and it’s a twist to the old reliable. Plus, it can be served with or without Spirits…I prefer WITH.

Coconut Pineapple Margarita

You will need:

2 ounces of tequilla of choice

2 ounces of pineapple juice

1 ounce of cocunut milk

1-2 teaspoons of agave nectar

Juice of 1/2 a lime

1 cup of ice

Cocktail shaker

*Note-I generally don’t measure when I “mix”…I generally measure according to personal taste

Blend above ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake, pour over fresh ice, use garnish of choice and ENJOY!

Cheers and Happy Cinco!-T

Effortless Festival Fashion

Happy Thursday Loves! I hope everyone’s week is going great and lacking drama! Sooooooo since the Coachella Music and Arts Festival kicked off this past weekend…I thought it only appropriate to devote a Blog post to Festival Fashion!  Regardless if you’re into Music Festival’s, Festival Fashion is still AWESOME!

Festival Fashion can be of all genre’s (just like it’s music) but I’m focusing this post on more of a “Boho, Free-Spirited” Look because, well, it’s my go-to look! Since I’m a 40 year old Mom, I can’t dress like a 20 year old.  I mean I guess I could, but not favorable so I need to keep my look tasteful and not letting my “cheeks” hang out of my shorty shorts…get my drift? And I like an Effortless Look as well, so here is my spin on Effortless Festival Fashion.

I am in LOVE with this 1st look!!! This White Metallic Stripe Dress is from Stash (an amazing boutique here in Tulsa…I’ve blogged about them several times before!!!) The Turquoise & Crystal Choker (in store only) is a perfect accessory for this Look. Add on a floral head crown and fringe bag for the ultimate Free-Spirit Vibe that screams Festival!

Can I tell you how happy I am that longer denim skirts are back in?  ALOT!  Like I said, I have to be careful at my age with the length of my skirts, shorts and dresses and it’s more of a comfort feeling if anything!  Just don’t feel rockn’ with my cheeks hanging out so this Denim Skirt from Target is perfect for me!  This Charcoal Vintage Havana Ruffle Off-The-Shoulder Crop Top from Stash Tulsa (in store only) is perfect for a polished Boho look! And what about these Cork “Flatforms” from Target??? My Momma had a pair like this back in her day! They are a perfect throw-back accessory!

(In LOVE with these Beaded Dangle Earrings from Stash Tulsa!)

If you’re not really into the Boho Look but want a Cool Girl Vibe…then Slogan Tee’s and Cut-Off Shorts are for you!  This “American Made” Vintage Tee has my birth year on it…so, of course I had to have!  Adding this bandana around the neck and the Booties with a Fringe Bag is effortless, HOT and comfy all in one!  That’s a win, win and win!

Jumper Dress and Backpack

Hey Hey Loves!  How is everyone’s week going? How was your Easter?  Our Easter was amazing, filled with family and LOTS OF FOOD! Every year I say, “I am not going to cook cuz I want to be able to enjoy everyone and not spend the entire day in the kitchen cooking and cleaning so we are going to Brunch”.  What ends up happening?  I start feeling so guilty because,  why wouldn’t I want to cook for my family?!?!? And I end up cooking anyways.  Then I promise myself that I’m going to keep it simple and what happens? I go waaaayyyyy overboard with the menu and the presentation! But my family loves and appreciates it, so all that makes it so worth it!

So, what do you think about this adorable Jumper Dress ?  Take you back a little?  Yup, did me too!  When I saw it I was like “OMG, gotta have this”!  I swear I had several dresses like this in Elementary school that I wore with Mary Jane flats and then again in college that I wore with big clunky Mary Jane’s (you remember the ones, you literally got a leg workout by just lifting your leg to walk cuz they were so heavy).  The print on this is a tiny floral print in pinks and whites, making it perfect for Spring and Summer.  You can literally wear this Jumper a number of ways.  I’ve worn it with booties, these mule flats and think it would be so cute with some Converse or Adidas SuperStars! I love the way this Backpack keeps the look fun and trendy! Backpacks are making a huge comeback this year as the IT accessory!  Again, takes me back but I’m finding Fashion does that…it will take you back when it comes back around!

Perfect Easter Dress

Perfect Easter Dress

Hey Hey! I know it’s been awhile since I’ve written to ya but you know…life happens (feel like I’ve said that before).  But I just had to tell you about the perfect Easter dress that I found this week at Target!  You know how much I love me some Target!  And even better news ( in case you weren’t aware) but Victoria Beckham has released a Spring line exclusively for Target and the clothes are DARLING!  I was really impressed with the quality and the price! I fell in love with this Black Calla Lily Ruffle Hem Dress by Victoria Beckham for Target.  The fit is amazing and forgiving, I actually went a size down from what I normally wear.  I know you’re shocked to see me dressed up but sometimes it just feels good to be girlie 🙂

Regardless of if you still need an Easter dress, be sure to definitely check out this collection!  S’Cute! A Lot of the pieces in this collection are not my everyday style but they are definitely amazing for someone who needs a more dressed up look.  And on rare occasion I need to look more polished and I could definitely see me rocking some of the pieces in this collection for those instances.

Festival Dress

Well Hey There and Happy Spring!  Long time, no write. Ya’ll, I have been BAD about not posting on the Blog here so please accept my sincere apology.  I know you’ll forgive me because you’re cool like that!  Now that my groveling is out of the way, time to get down to some fashion business.  As you know, Spring is officially here and it has given me the writer’s itch to start bringing you some fresh new looks to try this season! One of those looks is this adorable Festival Dress!  Now if you are asking yourself “What is a Festival Dress?” Well, the start of  music festival season is upon us..i.e. Coachella and just because you may not be attending a music festival, it doesn’t mean that you can’t dress like you will be going. When you think of Music Festival Attire, think “Boho”.  YA, one of my FAVORITE looks, BOHO!  And this “Festival Dress” is a perfect representation of  BOHO.

I found this cute long dress at non other than my FAVORITE shopping spot, Target.   And it was under $33! What a steal! Matter of fact, this whole look is from Target…other than the cross body bag.  Target has a ton of BOHO pieces that are great for a music festival look, you just can’t go wrong with Target people!  This Festival Dress is a perfect mix of Gypsy and Hippie and that just screams music festival to me!  You know, this dress actually reminds me of my Momma.  She was the epitome of Hippie meets Gypsy with her eclectic senses of fashion back in the day!

I paired this dress with my cute Jeffrey Campbell dupes (from Target) but it would be adorable with some gladiator sandals as well!  The hat and crossbody just enhance the look I was going for! Insert the High Five Moji here.
