Did you wonder where I had gone??? My apologies for being MIA for the past couple of weeks! Life has been crazy with a massive door repainting project…um what the H*L* was I thinking when I took on that task? Talk about out of my flippn’ mind! The bonus part was that I dropped a few LB’s while standing out in the 100 degree heat and humidity painting the doors…only to gain it all back and maybe then some while we were on our family vaca to Souuuth Care’lina (Southern Drawl) or rather South Carolina but you knew what I meant. Yes, my Hubby had business in South Carolina and the Lil Monkey and I tagged along for a last minute family vaca to the Palmetto state!
I have always wanted to go to Charleston and Hilton Head, luckily Kip’s business took us there and we fully took advantage of the time there. Just a little bit of background…I am in LOVE with the Antebellum Era…all of the history, the homes, the culture…it is so mesmerizing to me and a perfect place to see all of this is in the Charleston area. We flew into Charleston on Monday morning and immediately hit the streets seeing all of the beautiful architecture of homes, churches, and historical buildings. So many of the homes have been renovated to their original state and the preservation is breathtaking! We made sure to run through the Charleston Market which was full of goods from local vendors who were selling specialty items of the the Low Country such as Sweetgrass baskets, dried okra and Benne Wafers (Yum!). Of course, you can’t go to Charleston and not have the local favorite of Shrimp and Grits….absolutely amazing! During our short stay we also crammed in a visit to FT Sumter as well as some spooky graveyards and breakfast at the notorious “Toast” (the BEST biscuits and gravy I have EVER had…a must if you’re in Charleston!) If you go, I highly recommend stay at the The Mill’s House Hotel (click 3rd image below)…such an amazing historical hotel that opened in 1853! Here are just a few shots of the beauty of Charleston…
Tuesday afternoon we headed 2 hours South to beautiful Hilton Head (stopping at the Carolina Cherry Company for Peach Cider and boiled peanuts on the way). There we enjoyed 3 days of fun in the sun on the beach, bike riding, canoeing, eating, drinking, and more eating (aside from the steamy humidity)! We have decided that Hilton Head is our new fav family beach destination in the US!
Trip Highlight for this Momma? Okay, first a little trivia for ya…Does anyone know what TV Mini Series was filmed at this plantation in the mid-80 ‘s and is 1 my all time F.A.V.O.R.I.T.E. movies?
Okay, Okay…if you’re not a child of the 80’s OR you have no memory of this…it stared Patrick Swayze and James Read? Come on people! You know this…NORTH and SOUTH! Ya, so you can imagine how cool it was to go to the actual plantation where this movie was filmed and also a plantation that holds so much history and beauty in the architecture and beauty of the grounds! Built in 1681, Boone Hall Plantation (click above image) is a must see if you’re in the Charleston area. How would you like to drive up through this view everyday?
(So since we’ve been home, Hubby and I have been doing a North and South marathon because he’s never seen it)
But this is my all time favorite pic. Lil Monkey passed out at the airport when our flight was delayed due to bad thunderstorms. Such a little trooper
Here are a few of my pieces that made the trip:
Now, back home to the grind and to the grind I mean more paint projects that I have volunteered for (WTH?). And it’s the last week of summer before Lil Monkey goes back to school (where did the summer go?) and he starts Kindergarten (Whaaaattttt?!?!?!) How did my Lil Monkey get to Kindergarten so fast? I seem to be asking alot of questions of myself here. AKA I’m babbling…it’s late at night and I feel a bit sleep deprived. So, nighty night!
