Simple Boxing Workout

It’s a New Year! It’s a time to reinvent ourselves, get second chances, and start over.  That goes for our bodies as well. So, this is a perfect time to introduce you to a new workout that I have been obsessing over.  A simple Boxing workout for the new year!

Fitness Gurus will tell you that a good fitness program includes resistance training as well as cardio.  It’s a balance between the two.  I for one can’t stand cardio such as treadmill, running, or spin. I can tolerate the elliptical, but it’s not my favorite.  But, my favorite cardio is boxing or kickboxing.  You’re moving the whole time and usually hitting the crap outta something!  Talk about a good feeling my friends.  Boxing is so empowering.  Bad day? Take it out on a heavy bag and all your cares just float out of your fists.

So how did I get started on boxing? I’ve always been fascinated with the sport.  I used to do a boxing regime at a with an instructor.  But, I like to workout at home.  Going to the gym takes too much time out of my day.  So, we turned one of our spare bedrooms into a fitness room.  It includes free weights, a weight bench, an elliptical machine, and a heavy bag.  It’s the perfect set up.  I can get in, get my sweat on and get on with my day.

If you’re wondering where to get equipment such as a heavy bag, stand, boxing gloves and wraps: try Amazon.  Be sure to pick a boxing glove that matches the weight of your heavy bag.   Here is a perfect chart to determine glove weight.

DISCLAIMER-Just to be perfectly clear, I am not a certified fitness instructor nor am I a physician.  So, if you have any doubts in any form or fashion about your body being able to handle a workout like this, PLEASE consult your physician.  Can’t have you coming after me saying “What the What”!

Basic Invite is just as colorful with their envelopes as they are with their invitations. You can choose from over 40 different colors when it comes to your envelopes so that you can make your card stand out even before it is opened. All of their envelopes are peel and seal so the envelopes can be quickly and securely closed without licking a single one.

Easy Halloween Costume

Halloween is just around the corner, I mean literally.  It seems like it was just September and here we are, halfway through October!  If you are a Mom that means you will probably be busy on Halloween night taking your little goblins trick or treating.  I know I will be AND I will want to dress up too!  However, dressing up isn’t as elaborate as it used to be when you’re in Mom Mode.  So, I came up with a super easy Halloween costume that allows me to dress up on the fly!

There are tons of costumes that I could have came up with but this one seemed appropriate because my hubby is a President of bank!  So, why not a Thief?

This  costume was so easy to put together!  The only thing I had to purchase was the mask.  I’m sure some of you can find one of these in your kiddos toy box.  All you need for this look is:

  1. Stripe Top (Black/White)
  2. Black Jeans
  3. Black boots ( I have on Moto Boots)
  4. Black Beanie Hat
  5. Simple black gloves
  6. Black Eye Mask (Costume Store, Party City, Target)
  7. Red Lipstick (optional for some sizzle)

Put it all together and you have an easy Halloween Costume!

Cinco de Mayo

Happy May Loves!  Where has the time gone…we are already into May! WOW! Time is flying by and school will be out in 2 weeks which means this momma bear is panicking because I’ve got to come up with 3 months of fun to keep my little Monkey occupied…YIKES! But, back to May.  May means Cinco de Mayo! Do you have plans yet? Do you have a fun Cinco look yet?  Well, maybe I can help you out!  I’ve put together a couple of fun looks to get your Cinco de Mayo on and included a couple of my “Go-To” recipes to help you out to get your Cinco de Mayo on!

First and foremost what are you going to wear??? How about an embroidered dress like this THML sheath dress from Jade Creek Boutique! This dress is so cute and versatile to wear with wedges, heeled sandals or slides! Plus this adorable Cactus Straw Tote and Turquoise Beaded Tassel Earrings from Sasha Malchi just add that perfect amount of fiesta!

If you don’t want to wear a dress, this “Tacos and Tequila” Tank from Jade Creek Boutique is perfect with these Distressed Denim Shorts from Express! I added a red bandana and these Studded Ankle Booties for an edgy look!

Once you have got your look down, now you might need a fun appetizer recipe and a festive cocktail to wow your friends with!  Again…I’m here for ya!

Do you love Cheese? Check. Corn? Check. Cream Cheese? Check. Heat? Check.  This Hot Mexican Street Corn Dip has them all and then some!  This dip is sooooo easy to whip up, especially if you’re in a pinch for time and it’s YUMMY!  Serve with your tortilla chip of choice (I like Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips to think I’m eating something heathly).

(YIELDS 4-6, Double for 6-8)

Prep Time 5 Min, Cook time 20 Min

1 block of low-fat cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup light sour cream

2 tablespoons of hot sauce (or heat level preference) (I use Cholua)

1 clove minced garlic

1 tablespoon lime juice

1.5 Cup shredded cheese (I use a Mexican blend) (Pepper Jack to up the heat)

1 Can Corn (15 ounce)

1/2 fresh jalapeno pepper, chopped (leave seeds in for extra caliente)

1/4 cup fresh cilantro

*Add 1/4 cup red onion if you like (but I don’t like onions so I leave them out)

  1. Preheat oven to 35oF
  2. Combine cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, hot sauce, lime juice and 1/2 of the shredded cheese. Blend until fully combined
  3. Add remaining cheese, corn, cilantro, onion (if you choose), pepper to taste
  4. Scoop the above mixture into a prepared baking dish.  Sprinkle with more cheese.
  5. Bake 15-20 mins or until cheese is hot and bubbly. Garnish with cilantro and hot sauce
  6. Serve with Chips and enjoy!

All Cinco de Mayo celebrations call for a good libation! This Margarita is perfect and it’s a twist to the old reliable. Plus, it can be served with or without Spirits…I prefer WITH.

Coconut Pineapple Margarita

You will need:

2 ounces of tequilla of choice

2 ounces of pineapple juice

1 ounce of cocunut milk

1-2 teaspoons of agave nectar

Juice of 1/2 a lime

1 cup of ice

Cocktail shaker

*Note-I generally don’t measure when I “mix”…I generally measure according to personal taste

Blend above ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake, pour over fresh ice, use garnish of choice and ENJOY!

Cheers and Happy Cinco!-T
