Cinco de Mayo

Happy May Loves!  Where has the time gone…we are already into May! WOW! Time is flying by and school will be out in 2 weeks which means this momma bear is panicking because I’ve got to come up with 3 months of fun to keep my little Monkey occupied…YIKES! But, back to May.  May means Cinco de Mayo! Do you have plans yet? Do you have a fun Cinco look yet?  Well, maybe I can help you out!  I’ve put together a couple of fun looks to get your Cinco de Mayo on and included a couple of my “Go-To” recipes to help you out to get your Cinco de Mayo on!

First and foremost what are you going to wear??? How about an embroidered dress like this THML sheath dress from Jade Creek Boutique! This dress is so cute and versatile to wear with wedges, heeled sandals or slides! Plus this adorable Cactus Straw Tote and Turquoise Beaded Tassel Earrings from Sasha Malchi just add that perfect amount of fiesta!

If you don’t want to wear a dress, this “Tacos and Tequila” Tank from Jade Creek Boutique is perfect with these Distressed Denim Shorts from Express! I added a red bandana and these Studded Ankle Booties for an edgy look!

Once you have got your look down, now you might need a fun appetizer recipe and a festive cocktail to wow your friends with!  Again…I’m here for ya!

Do you love Cheese? Check. Corn? Check. Cream Cheese? Check. Heat? Check.  This Hot Mexican Street Corn Dip has them all and then some!  This dip is sooooo easy to whip up, especially if you’re in a pinch for time and it’s YUMMY!  Serve with your tortilla chip of choice (I like Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips to think I’m eating something heathly).

HOT MEXICAN STREET CORN DIP

(YIELDS 4-6, Double for 6-8)

Prep Time 5 Min, Cook time 20 Min

Ingredients:

1 block of low-fat cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup light sour cream

2 tablespoons of hot sauce (or heat level preference) (I use Cholua)

1 clove minced garlic

1 tablespoon lime juice

1.5 Cup shredded cheese (I use a Mexican blend) (Pepper Jack to up the heat)

1 Can Corn (15 ounce)

1/2 fresh jalapeno pepper, chopped (leave seeds in for extra caliente)

1/4 cup fresh cilantro

*Add 1/4 cup red onion if you like (but I don’t like onions so I leave them out)

  1. Preheat oven to 35oF
  2. Combine cream cheese, sour cream, garlic, hot sauce, lime juice and 1/2 of the shredded cheese. Blend until fully combined
  3. Add remaining cheese, corn, cilantro, onion (if you choose), pepper to taste
  4. Scoop the above mixture into a prepared baking dish.  Sprinkle with more cheese.
  5. Bake 15-20 mins or until cheese is hot and bubbly. Garnish with cilantro and hot sauce
  6. Serve with Chips and enjoy!

All Cinco de Mayo celebrations call for a good libation! This Margarita is perfect and it’s a twist to the old reliable. Plus, it can be served with or without Spirits…I prefer WITH.

Coconut Pineapple Margarita

You will need:

2 ounces of tequilla of choice

2 ounces of pineapple juice

1 ounce of cocunut milk

1-2 teaspoons of agave nectar

Juice of 1/2 a lime

1 cup of ice

Cocktail shaker

*Note-I generally don’t measure when I “mix”…I generally measure according to personal taste

Blend above ingredients to a cocktail shaker, shake, pour over fresh ice, use garnish of choice and ENJOY!

Cheers and Happy Cinco!-T

Effortless Festival Fashion

Happy Thursday Loves! I hope everyone’s week is going great and lacking drama! Sooooooo since the Coachella Music and Arts Festival kicked off this past weekend…I thought it only appropriate to devote a Blog post to Festival Fashion!  Regardless if you’re into Music Festival’s, Festival Fashion is still AWESOME!

Festival Fashion can be of all genre’s (just like it’s music) but I’m focusing this post on more of a “Boho, Free-Spirited” Look because, well, it’s my go-to look! Since I’m a 40 year old Mom, I can’t dress like a 20 year old.  I mean I guess I could, but not favorable so I need to keep my look tasteful and not letting my “cheeks” hang out of my shorty shorts…get my drift? And I like an Effortless Look as well, so here is my spin on Effortless Festival Fashion.

I am in LOVE with this 1st look!!! This White Metallic Stripe Dress is from Stash (an amazing boutique here in Tulsa…I’ve blogged about them several times before!!!) The Turquoise & Crystal Choker (in store only) is a perfect accessory for this Look. Add on a floral head crown and fringe bag for the ultimate Free-Spirit Vibe that screams Festival!

Can I tell you how happy I am that longer denim skirts are back in?  ALOT!  Like I said, I have to be careful at my age with the length of my skirts, shorts and dresses and it’s more of a comfort feeling if anything!  Just don’t feel rockn’ with my cheeks hanging out so this Denim Skirt from Target is perfect for me!  This Charcoal Vintage Havana Ruffle Off-The-Shoulder Crop Top from Stash Tulsa (in store only) is perfect for a polished Boho look! And what about these Cork “Flatforms” from Target??? My Momma had a pair like this back in her day! They are a perfect throw-back accessory!

(In LOVE with these Beaded Dangle Earrings from Stash Tulsa!)

If you’re not really into the Boho Look but want a Cool Girl Vibe…then Slogan Tee’s and Cut-Off Shorts are for you!  This “American Made” Vintage Tee has my birth year on it…so, of course I had to have!  Adding this bandana around the neck and the Booties with a Fringe Bag is effortless, HOT and comfy all in one!  That’s a win, win and win!

Jumper Dress and Backpack

Hey Hey Loves!  How is everyone’s week going? How was your Easter?  Our Easter was amazing, filled with family and LOTS OF FOOD! Every year I say, “I am not going to cook cuz I want to be able to enjoy everyone and not spend the entire day in the kitchen cooking and cleaning so we are going to Brunch”.  What ends up happening?  I start feeling so guilty because,  why wouldn’t I want to cook for my family?!?!? And I end up cooking anyways.  Then I promise myself that I’m going to keep it simple and what happens? I go waaaayyyyy overboard with the menu and the presentation! But my family loves and appreciates it, so all that makes it so worth it!

So, what do you think about this adorable Jumper Dress ?  Take you back a little?  Yup, did me too!  When I saw it I was like “OMG, gotta have this”!  I swear I had several dresses like this in Elementary school that I wore with Mary Jane flats and then again in college that I wore with big clunky Mary Jane’s (you remember the ones, you literally got a leg workout by just lifting your leg to walk cuz they were so heavy).  The print on this is a tiny floral print in pinks and whites, making it perfect for Spring and Summer.  You can literally wear this Jumper a number of ways.  I’ve worn it with booties, these mule flats and think it would be so cute with some Converse or Adidas SuperStars! I love the way this Backpack keeps the look fun and trendy! Backpacks are making a huge comeback this year as the IT accessory!  Again, takes me back but I’m finding Fashion does that…it will take you back when it comes back around!
